What is Ampere Turns (AT) for Reed Relays/ Reed Relays?
Ampere-turns (AT) is a specification used to measure the magnetic sensitivity of reed switches. A reed switch is an electrical component that contains two ferromagnetic reeds that are hermetically sealed in a glass envelope. When a magnetic field is applied to the switch, the reeds move and make contact, completing the electrical circuit.
Ampere-turns (AT) is a measure of the magnetic field strength required to actuate the reed switch. It is determined by multiplying the number of turns in the coil by the current flowing through it. The higher the AT rating, the more sensitive the reed switch and the lower the magnetic field required to actuate it.
In general, a higher AT rating indicates a less sensitive reed switch that can be activated by larger magnets or with a stronger magnetic field. Therefore, it is important to choose a reed switch with an appropriate AT rating for the intended application to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
